Woodland, CA (Sunday December 20, 2009) U13 Barcelona finished a strong NorCal Premier season with a victory in the Platinum Division Championship game against Davis FC Boys 97. The boys dominated the 3 game championship series with wins against Modesto Ajax, Sonoma County Alliance and Davis, scoring 14 goals and allowing only 1 goal against. The boys worked hard against Davis making an early goal by Team Captain Pastor Sanchez hold up for a 1-0 win. “This championship was a total team effort” Coach Saul Raygoza said after the trophy and individual medal presentation by the NorCal staff. “We struggled with some key injuries during our run and everyone stepped up when called upon to do so. This team plays with their hearts on their sleeves and they look out for each other. They are a joy to coach.”
The boys will be getting a much needed rest over the holidays and will return to training on January 4th, to prepare for the CYSA State Cup initial round on January 23rd. They will also be playing in the Castro Valley Winter Shootout, a US Club Sanctioned tournament in early January.
Barcelona would also like to recognize and congratulate Nigel McIntosh and Gabriel Thurner for their selection to the 2010 (Boys’97) California State ODP pool. Way to go boys!
